Surfing Cow Ice Cream is now available at the Cider Press Centre, Dartington. Bayards Kitchen, which already runs a hugely popular cafe there, has opened a new ice cream parlour – The Cider Press Shack – at the site  selling the multi-award winning ice cream which has proved a huge hit with visitors.

There are lots of flavours to choose from, such as Devon Dairy, Salted Caramel, Mint Choc Chip, Honeycombe, Mascarpone and Wild Cherry, Raspberry Ripple and Lotus Biscoff with other more unusual flavours making the occasional appearance too, like Popping Candy and Jaffa Cake.

Tucked in amongst the hills of a coastal farm a few miles east of Plymouth, and less than a mile from Mothecombe Beach, Surfing Cow ice cream is made in a former agricultural barn, just metres from the milking parlour. It was set up in 2018 and is produced from 450 free-range Jersey-cross cows that graze the farm’s lush pasture yielding a rich, creamy milk that gives the ice cream its unique flavour.

They live at grass for much of the year, only coming inside in really bad weather or for a few weeks before they calve. It’s also a closed herd which means they don’t buy in cows. Sun-bathed and with a sea view makes for very happy cows, which is probably why, time and again, Surfing Cow Ice Cream is voted the very best in Devon and why all roads have been leading to The Cider Press Centre this summer.
