We comprise more than 30 hill farmers working co-operatively, championing quality beef and lamb produced on the moor in a move away from commodity driven supply to the supply of a unique premium brand.

Dartmoor Farmers Association (DFA) was founded in 2007.  We are a growing group of like-minded hill farmers, raising native breeds of beef and lamb using traditional farming methods on sustainable farms.  With inspiration from HRH Prince of Wales, we have tried to create a brand that represents quality, value for money, guaranteed provenance and high standards of animal welfare.  At the same time we are endeavouring to preserve the natural environment of the Dartmoor National Park for the enjoyment of our local communities whilst simultaneously attracting visitors to the area.
All the beef and lamb raised within the DFA scheme is slaughtered and processed locally so we can keep food miles to a minimum.  Thereafter we sell our beef and lamb to a number of local retail outlets on and around Dartmoor.  We work with local butcheries and farm shops and agricultural retail stores.  We also sell our meat to a number of local pubs and hotels.  Consumers are also able to purchase meat boxes online at www.darmoorfarmers.co.uk
Our members have to fulfil strict production criteria to ensure animal and pro-active environmental welfare, traceability and traditional farming methods.  We also agree to a number of collective aspirations – such as sharing knowledge and skills and minimising environmental impact.
We run pre-scheduled farm open days for the public and place strong emphasis on how buying local is critical to the survival of our rural community and economy and the continued preservation of our natural environment.
