Flying The Flag For Devon And Its Impressive Offering Of Food And Drink

Event Date:
October, 2016

Ahead of its prestigious awards’ evening on Monday 10th October, Food & Drink Devon is launching a new flying the flag campaign.  Incorporating this not-for-profit organisation’s logo into the Devon flag, the initiative will help drive further awareness of the outstanding food and drink being produced, served and sold throughout the county.

Those lucky enough to have a highly sought after ticket to the award’s ceremony will see these new flags flying proudly at the Deer Park Country House Hotel.  They will reappear at key events and food festivals both across the county and further afield, such as at the International Media Marketplace held in London in the spring at which Food & Drink Devon will have a presence for the second year.  The campaign will also run across social media with the hashtag #flyingtheflag being used to promote Devon’s food and drink on Twitter.

Commenting on this new initiative, chair Barbara King says: “Food & Drink Devon represents a true mark of quality.  Our members have to meet certain criteria to join the organisation.  We are extremely proud of every one of them as it takes an enormous amount of hard work, dedication and entrepreneurism to run a business which cuts no corners and creates such an impressive standard for which our county is now known.”  Barbara continues: “The members of the board, who volunteer their time, all work tirelessly to keep Devon at top of mind nationwide both in terms of food tourism and as a source of superb produce.  They all bring different skills and offerings to the table, but all share a common ground of a great wish to fly the flag for Devon food and drink and help the local economy thrive, driving employment and prosperity in the county.”  Barbara, who is also the managing director of The Shops at Dartington, was newly appointed as chair in July this year.

Look out for the Food & Drink Devon logo on packaging, in restaurants and pubs, and in retail outlets to be given the reassurance that what you are about to buy is really amongst the best you can get.  Pick up a Food & Drink Devon guide, which are freely available and can be found across the county distributed by members as well as in the Exeter Airport Aviation Lounge and the First Class Lounge in Paddington Station and many tourist information centres, to give you confidence in your choices and your recommendations to friends, family and business contacts.  Finally, help fly the flag for Devon by joining in the conversation on social media and telling all to keep an eye out for the logo on their travels.

The results of the Food & Drink Devon awards will be announced at the ceremony on the 10th October in the new Orangery at Honiton’s desirable Deer Park Country House Hotel.  It will be hosted by BBC Radio 2’s one and only food and drink expert, Nigel Barden.  Some of the leading food and drink residents of the county, including BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen’s drinks’ expert Susy Atkins, have participated in the judging of these awards.  The winners represent the very pinnacle of their trade.  The awards are sponsored by The Venus Company, Luscombe Drinks, Stephens Scown, Peplows, M.C. Kelly and NatWest, and the exclusive media sponsor is Taste Buds magazine.

Food & Drink Devon is the county’s only dedicated membership organisation supporting quality, provenance, sustainability and trading across the food and drink sector.  It has over 250 Devon-based members, including cookery schools, hotels, speciality retailers and farmers’ markets.
