New Lion Brewery's Hop Club Harvest
The New Lion Brewery's Hop Club celebrated its first harvest in September, and it was something really rather special. Members received their hop rhizomes in the spring, and despite slugs, bad weather and a few crop failures, most had wonderful smelling hops to bring in. The harvests ranged from 20 cones, lovingly harvested and placed in a sealable plastic bag, to an astonishing 700g grown from just one plant.
Head brewer Mat Henney had a special brew ready to receive the hops, and each Hop Club member will get a bottle of the as-yet-unnamed, very limited edition beer. Any bottles left over will be available at the Totnes Forking Local Food Festival on 8 October - but there won't be many, so if you want to try it, get there early! Next Spring we will bring in more growers to add to our patchwork hop farm - and our supply of locally hopped beer!
